Junior Software Engineer
Build your software engineering career while helping power the next chapter of Vanquis
We’ve invested significantly in modernising our technology landscape and strengthening our engineering capabilities. Now, we’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer who is ready to learn, contribute and grow with us.
Working within our Solution Engineering function, you’ll support the design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing support of software components, APIs, integrations and automation.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, take ownership of clearly defined technical tasks and build practical experience across the software delivery lifecycle. Through coaching, structured learning and hands-on delivery, you’ll develop the capabilities needed to progress towards a Software Engineer role

How you’ll make an impact:
- Develop software components, APIs, integrations and automation with support from experienced engineers
- Turn requirements and technical designs into secure, reliable and maintainable solutions
- Complete development tasks, configuration changes, defect fixes and technical improvements
- Create unit tests, technical documentation and support information for your work
- Take part in peer reviews, testing and defect investigation, applying feedback to improve quality
- Support release preparation, deployment validation, monitoring and post-release checks
- Work with colleagues across engineering, architecture, product, testing, security, data and operations
- Build your technical confidence through practical experience, coaching and structured learning
Why this role matters:
Technology & Change is a strategic priority for Vanquis. As a Junior Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to the solutions, integrations and automation that support our customers, colleagues and essential business services.
You’ll work closely with Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, architects and the Software Engineering Manager, while gaining exposure to product owners, business analysts, test engineers, security, operations, data and release teams.

The tools and technologies helping us shape what’s next
- Salesforce: Configuration, security, declarative automation, Apex and Lightning components
- MuleSoft and APIs: API-led connectivity, REST and SOAP services, integrations and data transformation
- Engineering Practices: Source control, automated testing, CI/CD and controlled environments
- Delivery and Release: Agile delivery, peer review, deployment validation and monitoring
You don’t need to be an expert in every area. This is a development opportunity where you’ll build your knowledge through structured learning and practical experience.
Essential experience
We’re interested in your potential, curiosity and willingness to learn. You’ll need:
- A genuine interest in software engineering, Salesforce, MuleSoft, APIs, integrations or technology delivery
- Some practical exposure to software development, configuration, testing, debugging or technical problem-solving
- The ability to follow technical guidance, agreed designs and established standards
- A structured approach to investigating problems and identifying possible solutions
- Good organisation and the ability to manage assigned tasks and communicate progress
- A collaborative approach, with the confidence to ask questions and learn from feedback
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality, security and responsible data handling

Useful, but not essential
- Experience or developing knowledge of Salesforce or MuleSoft
- Awareness of APIs, REST or SOAP services and integration concepts
- An understanding of source control, automated testing, CI/CD or deployment processes
- Experience of Agile delivery practices
- Trailhead badges, practical labs, portfolio projects or other structured technology learning
- A Salesforce or MuleSoft foundation credential, or progress towards one
- A degree, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related subject
- Awareness of financial services or regulated technology delivery

Career development:
This role is designed to help you build the technical, delivery and professional capabilities needed to progress towards a Software Engineer position.
You’ll learn through practical delivery, coaching, peer review, feedback, structured development and relevant certification activity. As your confidence and technical judgement grow, you’ll have opportunities to take ownership of broader and more complex work.
