Associate Solicitor - Family Law
Join our highly regarded Family department as an Associate Solicitor and take the next step in your career. You will handle quality family law work, help grow the department and support the development of trainees and less experienced colleagues.
Based in Newport or Cardiff, with hybrid working, this role is ideal for a commercially minded family solicitor with at least five years’ experience who is ready to combine casework with mentoring and business development.
For more than 40 years, hpjv has provided trusted, practical legal advice to individuals and families. We are Lexcel accredited and committed to giving our people the support and development they need to do their best work.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing a varied family law caseload efficiently and proactively.
- Providing clear, practical advice and representation to clients.
- Preparing high-quality legal documents and correspondence.
- Providing guidance and support to trainees and less experienced colleagues.
- Attending client meetings, conferences, and court hearings.
- Undertaking advocacy where appropriate.
- Managing time recording, billing, work in progress, and cash collection.
- Generating new work through networking, referrer relationships, marketing, and cross-referrals.

What We Are Looking For
- A qualified solicitor with at least five years’ family law experience.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of public funding regulations and Legal Aid Agency procedures.
- An approachable and constructive style when providing support and guidance.
- Strong organisation, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of financial performance.
- A proactive approach to business development and professional relationships.
