Are you passionate about creating innovative, elegant and robust structural engineering solutions? Your project leadership experience might just make you our new Associate Structural Engineer.

This role will see you working as part of the Manchester-based structural engineering team focusing on a diverse portfolio of North West projects alongside those across the UK and around the world. This is a technically demanding role and we are ideally looking for creative candidates with an interest/aptitude in computational techniques as well as being interested in being at the forefront of changes in the industry such as in reducing embodied carbon and modern methods of construction in structural design.

The ideal candidate will have experience across a wide variety of projects and sectors.

  • Preparation of Technical Specifications and checking the work/specifications of other Engineers in the team
  • Leadership of projects on behalf of the group, taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships.
  • Reviewing job financial performance and managing resources accordingly.
  • Guiding less experienced team members in order to achieve project success.
  • Supporting delivery of the team's Performance and Development Review process.
  • Providing support in seeking new work from existing clients.
  • Preparing bid proposals and additional fee proposals (with the support of the Group Directors, Associate Directors and Bid team colleagues)

Your Skills & Experience

As an Associate Structural Engineer, we would expect that you will be able to demonstrate:

  • An outstanding foundation as a technical and project leader; demonstrated via a track record of successful delivery over a sustained period within the industry.
  • Mentoring and leadership experience of structural engineering and other multi-disciplinary engineering professionals, with the desire and ability to support the development of individuals' skills, whilst encouraging collaboration and cohesive teamwork.
  • A strong portfolio of UK project experience, ideally within multiple sectors and across both new build and refurbishment projects, although Buro Happold's varied portfolio will further extend your breadth of experience.
  • A solid educational foundation, with a BEng or MEng (or equivalent) degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant institution such as the ICE or IStructE.
  • Line management experience and mentorship of individuals through their own chartership journey.
  • Whilst not essential, engagement in the industry through institutional events and committees.
