Job Description
Associate Structural Engineer – Bristol
We invite you to bring your talent and passion into play as an Associate Structural Engineer in our growing Bristol team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced structural engineer who wants to combine technical leadership, project delivery, client relationships, and business growth. You’ll play an important role in our Industry & Infrastructure Facilities (I&IF) team, helping us deliver technically interesting projects while also helping shape and grow our presence in Bristol.
If you are looking for a role where you can remain close to engineering, work with great people, and have a genuine influence on the direction of a growing team, we’d love to hear from you.
A Great Place to Build Your Career
You’ll join our Industry & Infrastructure Facilities (I&IF) team in Bristol – a growing regional team with a real sense of community and a strong focus on technical excellence.
Our work spans a diverse range of sectors, including rail, aviation, energy, manufacturing, data centers, and other critical infrastructure. The variety of our work means you’ll have the opportunity to apply your structural engineering expertise to different challenges, clients, and sectors.
We work across the project lifecycle, from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction. We also work closely with colleagues across Ramboll, bringing together structural, civil, MEP, sustainability, and other specialist expertise to deliver integrated solutions.
Why Bristol?
We’re a smaller regional team, which means you’ll have the opportunity to make a real contribution and see the impact of your work. There is a strong sense of community, with technically excellent people around you who are keen to share knowledge, support each other, and help you develop.
We also like to have some fun. Our active Bristol social team organizes activities ranging from padel and other sports to pub quizzes and informal team events.
Our Bristol office is in a great location, close to Temple Meads and Bristol city centre, providing a collaborative and accessible base for our growing team.
Your Role
As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will have a broad role combining technical, project, people, and business responsibilities.
You will:
- Lead the structural design and delivery of technically complex or specialized projects, taking responsibility for technical quality and project outcomes.
- Develop structural concepts, design philosophies, and innovative engineering solutions.
- Act as a technical point of reference for colleagues, sharing your knowledge, and providing coaching and guidance to other engineers.
- Take responsibility for client relationships and represent Ramboll at project and technical meetings.
- Work closely with architects, contractors, and other disciplines to develop practical, coordinated, and efficient solutions.
- Promote sustainable and low-carbon approaches to structural design, including reuse and efficient use of materials.
- Support the development of the Bristol I&IF team and contribute to building our technical capability.
- Identify opportunities to improve the way we deliver our work and develop new services and areas of expertise.
- Help shape our Bristol growth

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
