I’m currently recruiting for an Associate Structural Engineer to join an established and growing building structures team in Birmingham, with a salary of £60,000–£75,000 depending on experience.
The Opportunity
This is a senior position suited to a Chartered Structural Engineer who is confident taking ownership of projects, developing client relationships and providing technical leadership to a small team.
- You’ll be joining a friendly and collaborative Birmingham team working on a varied portfolio of projects across the commercial, residential, retail, education, industrial and refurbishment sectors.
- The role offers the opportunity to play a key part in delivering major schemes while also helping to develop the wider team and contribute to the continued growth of the Birmingham office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion
- Act as project lead, managing programme, budget and quality
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers and technicians
- Provide technical guidance and oversee design solutions
- Review and approve structural calculations, drawings and technical documentation
- Work closely with clients, architects and other members of multidisciplinary design teams
- Develop efficient and innovative structural solutions
- Assist with proposals, tenders and wider business development activities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Ensure designs comply with relevant UK standards, regulations and industry best practice

About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Chartered Engineer status, ideally through IStructE or ICE
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Strong experience within a structural engineering consultancy
- Proven experience leading projects and supporting or managing junior engineers
- Strong technical knowledge of building structures
- Experience across a variety of sectors such as residential, commercial, education, retail, healthcare or industrial
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- A proactive approach with strong leadership and organisational abilities
- Experience with structural analysis/design software such as Robot, MasterSeries, ETABS, TEDDS or similar
- Experience with Revit would be advantageous
