Our Building Structures team works collaboratively with clients, architects and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver innovative, practical and sustainable structural solutions across a diverse range of projects.

As Waterman Group continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to join our Leeds office and play a key role in the continued development of our Structures team.

About The Role

Are you an experienced Structural Engineer looking to take the next step in your career and progress into an Associate level position?

Would you like the opportunity to lead the delivery of exciting and technically challenging projects while developing client relationships, mentoring engineers and contributing to the growth of Waterman Group?

As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will take a leading role in the delivery of structural engineering projects across a variety of sectors, including commercial, residential, mixed-use, education, healthcare, leisure and refurbishment. You will have responsibility for leading projects from inception through to completion, providing technical leadership and working closely with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants to deliver high-quality structural solutions. You will also be supporting in leading our Leeds office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and delivery of a range of building projects.
  • Take responsibility for projects from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
  • Manage project programmes, resources and deliverables, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Provide technical leadership and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Work closely with architects, clients, contractors and other consultants to develop coordinated and efficient structural solutions.
  • Attend and lead client and design team meetings, representing Waterman Group in a professional and confident manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Manage and mentor Graduate, Engineer and Senior Engineer colleagues, supporting their technical and professional development.
  • Delegate work effectively and provide technical guidance and support to the wider project team.
  • Contribute to fee proposals, bids and business development opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new and existing client relationships and support the continued growth of the London Structures team.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant design standards, health and safety requirements and Waterman Group's quality procedures.
  • Promote sustainable and innovative approaches to structural design across projects.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you are an experienced Structural Engineer with a strong consultancy background and are ready to take on greater responsibility.

Ideally, You Will Have

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered Engineer status with IStructE or ICE, or be close to achieving Chartership.
  • Significant experience within a structural engineering consultancy.
  • Strong experience delivering building structures projects across a variety of sectors.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of structural design and analysis, with experience across materials such as steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
  • Proven experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of British Standards, Eurocodes and CDM requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing situations.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project fees, budgets and resource management.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with a genuine interest in developing both people and projects.
  • A desire to contribute to business development and the continued growth of Waterman Group.
