Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Associate Technical Director to join our Rail South, West & Wales Business Unit, supporting the delivery of major rail structures projects across the region.
Working within our Civil & Structural Engineering team, you will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects, including stations, bridges, depots and maintenance facilities. You will play a key role in delivering technically complex projects, strengthening client relationships, developing teams, and supporting the growth of our rail business.
This role is ideal for a collaborative and commercially aware leader with extensive experience in rail structures, strong technical assurance knowledge and a passion for delivering high-quality outcomes.
Role Accountabilities
- Lead the technical delivery and assurance of multidisciplinary rail projects.
- Act as a trusted adviser to clients and stakeholders, building strong and lasting relationships.
- Support project teams through technical governance, resource planning and safety-critical reviews.
- Mentor engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to work-winning activities, business development and the growth of the Rail South, West & Wales business.

Qualifications & Experience
- A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised professional institution.
- Significant experience leading the technical delivery of rail structures projects or complex multidisciplinary rail infrastructure programmes within the UK rail sector.
- Strong knowledge of rail design assurance, health and safety requirements, safety-critical processes and relevant industry standards.
- The capability to undertake the role of Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM) in accordance with NR/L2/INI/02009, where required.
- Proven experience leading technical teams, managing client relationships and delivering successful project outcomes.
Experience across a range of rail infrastructure projects, together with involvement in multidisciplinary consultancy teams, client development and work-winning activities, would be advantageous.
