Associate Town Planner

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Job Type: Full-time

Working Pattern: Hybrid

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Associate Town Planner to join our growing planning team in Newcastle.

This is an excellent opportunity for a planner looking to take the next step in their career, with the chance to work on a diverse range of high-profile development projects across the North East. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, build strong client relationships and play an important role in the continued growth of the team.

You will work across a broad range of sectors, potentially including residential, commercial, mixed-use, regeneration and strategic development.

The Role

As an Associate Town Planner, you will:

  • Lead and manage a range of planning projects from inception through to determination.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals and other planning documentation.
  • Provide commercially focused planning advice to clients and project teams.
  • Manage relationships with clients, local authorities, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with planning authorities and negotiate with officers to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Undertake planning appraisals and development potential assessments.
  • Prepare planning statements, reports and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants.
  • Assist with business development, identifying new opportunities and developing existing client relationships.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the planning team.
  • Keep up to date with changes to planning policy, legislation and best practice.

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident, commercially aware and keen to progress their career within a successful planning consultancy.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Town Planning, Planning & Development or a related discipline.
  • MRTPI qualification, or be working towards chartership.
  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy, developer or local authority environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation and policy.
  • Experience managing planning applications and projects from inception through to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic planning advice.
  • The confidence to manage client relationships and liaise with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • A proactive approach and the ambition to develop and progress.
