Associate Town Planning Director

Location: London
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Town Planning Director to join a highly regarded and growing planning consultancy in London.

The business has an established reputation for delivering commercially focused planning advice across a diverse portfolio of complex and high-profile projects. Working with a broad range of clients across the property and development sectors, the team provides strategic planning advice from project inception through to delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional looking to take the next step in their career, with responsibility for leading projects, developing client relationships, and contributing to the continued growth of the London planning team.

The Role

As an Associate Town Planning Director, you will play a key role in the delivery and management of a diverse portfolio of planning projects. You will be expected to operate confidently at a senior level, providing high-quality strategic advice while taking an active role in business development and team leadership.

  • Leading and managing complex planning projects from inception through to determination and implementation.
  • Providing strategic planning advice to clients, landowners, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Managing relationships with local planning authorities, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Preparing and reviewing planning strategies, reports, representations, and applications.
  • Leading client meetings, presentations, and negotiations.
  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities and contributing to the growth of the London office.
  • Building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the planning team.
  • Contributing to the wider strategic direction and development of the planning business.

About You

We are looking for an experienced planning professional with a strong track record in consultancy and a genuine interest in delivering commercially astute planning solutions.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant experience within a town planning consultancy or related property environment.
  • A strong understanding of the UK planning system and development management process.
  • Experience managing complex planning projects and advising clients at a senior level.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to understand clients' wider development objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Experience mentoring, managing, or supporting junior colleagues.
  • The confidence and credibility to engage with senior clients, planning officers, and other stakeholders.
  • MRTPI membership, or a clear route towards chartership, is desirable.
