We're looking for an Associate Underwriting MI Analyst to join our team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You'll work within a small, collaborative team to create and deliver high-quality management information and performance reporting, helping stakeholders understand performance and make informed business decisions. Based within our Haywards Heath, West Sussex team, you'll primarily work from home while coming together in our office once a month to collaborate, share ideas, and connect with colleagues. We believe this approach offers the best balance of flexibility, teamwork, and development. If you'd like to spend more time in the office, we'd be delighted to see you there.

Core skills we’re looking for to succeed in the role:

  • Academic Background: Minimum 2:1 degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong numerical and analytical ability, with a logical approach to problem-solving and the ability to interpret complex data and identify meaningful insights.
  • Technical Skills: Strong IT and analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel and SQL. Experience with Power BI, or a similar data visualisation platform, is highly desirable. Exposure to Databricks would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Experience in data modelling, analysis, and reporting, with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights and communicate findings effectively to a range of audiences.
  • Attention to Detail: High levels of accuracy and attention to detail, with a commitment to producing reliable and robust analysis.
  • Learning Agility: A proactive and curious approach to learning, with the ability to quickly develop new skills, knowledge, and technical expertise.

What’s involved:

  • You’ll contribute to the development and maintenance of the Underwriting Performance Monitoring Suite of MI reports, through creation of new Underwriting reports and enhancing existing reporting functionality.
  • You’ll produce and publish BAU reports to agreed regular refresh schedule to ensure timely business decision making.
  • You’ll produce ad-hoc performance monitoring analysis to answer specific business challenges or surface issues/opportunities for action within team or wider pillar.
  • You’ll create and maintain reporting and underlying data models using tools such as Power BI, Databricks, SAS, SQL.
  • You’ll ensure reporting requirements are clearly captured from business stakeholders (both within team and across wider business).
  • You’ll maintain MI best practice, including change control process, and adhere to high-quality coding standards and documentation.
  • You’ll ensure Underwriting Management Information is produced with a level of quality to enable accurate business decision making.
  • You’ll comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times.
  • You’ll ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values, and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times.
  • You’ll proactively own personal development – researching and learning about new tools, techniques, and data sources which may benefit the team, under the guidance of the Underwriting MI Manager.

Experience & knowledge:

  • Experience in use of data visualisation tools such as Power BI.
  • Knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M) desirable.
  • Experience with analytical programming languages and packages, such as Databricks, SAS, SQL.
  • Understanding of data analysis principles.
  • Knowledge of personal lines general insurance preferred.
  • Strong commercial acumen.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2:1 in a numerical undergraduate discipline.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Good time management and organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems.
  • Data and statistical analysis skills preferred.
  • Strong IT skills (including ideally Excel, programming, and data visualisation skills).
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Logical thinker with solid reasoning ability.
  • Emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Quick learner.
