'My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus — the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God' (Acts 20:24)

Something wonderful is happening here at St Augustine's. Over the last few years we’ve been praying that God would breathe fresh life into our church as we gather, grow and give, and that through it all the gospel would multiply and bear fruit in our town. He is answering our prayers.

We’re experiencing the joy of significant growth, especially among families, young people and those encountering Jesus for the first time. People are finding connection and a home after years away from God. New leaders are emerging and others are being sent out.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Right now we’re praying that God will send us a gifted leader to join us as our next Associate Vicar for Mission.

We’re seeking someone who loves the family of God, who is willing and able to share in leading and pastoring a local church, but who knows in their bones that the ‘work assigned them by the Lord Jesus’ is seeing people outside the church respond to the gospel and built into the family.

We’re looking for a strong communicator who can teach the Bible and preach the gospel so that people come to faith in Jesus, but who will also take personal responsibility for knitting new disciples in so that gospel community grows.

And because we know that this is Jesus’ work which must be done in his time and in his power, we’re searching for someone willing to contend in prayer – for souls, for workers, for revival.

I believe God is calling someone who right now is praying for the same things we are.

If you think it might be you, whether you’re a gifted younger leader coming to the end of a curacy, or a more seasoned minister looking for a chance to focus on what you most love to do, I’d love to hear from you.

Praying for you,

Al Metcalfe
