We are seeking an Associate or Associate Director Civil Water Engineer to join our growing Water team, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects for UK water companies, local authorities, and environmental organisations.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly experienced engineer to play a leading role in the delivery of major water programmes and frameworks, shaping technical solutions, influencing client strategy, and contributing to the growth of our business. Whether your aspirations lie in technical leadership, project delivery, client leadership, or business development, this role offers a clear pathway for further progression.
You will lead the planning, design, and delivery of critical water infrastructure projects across both regulated and non-regulated markets, helping to improve water services, enhance environmental outcomes, and strengthen community resilience. Working across a broad and varied portfolio, you will have the opportunity to expand your expertise, collaborate with industry-leading specialists, and tackle some of the sector's most complex and rewarding challenges. We can also support your professional development towards Fellowship with a recognised engineering institution.

We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position can be based from any of our major offices of London Nova, Epsom, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Belfast, or Glasgow. It can also be based in our regional offices of Leeds, Newcastle, Peterborough, Exeter, Derby, Cardiff, or Swansea.

Your role
The role offers broad project exposure, technical development, and clear opportunities for progression within a collaborative and growing team.
You will:
- Oversee the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions across a diverse project portfolio from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines to develop integrated and sustainable outcomes for clients.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and project partners.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to developing engineers and support team growth.
- Support project planning, resource management, commercial performance, and risk management.
- Contribute to business development, framework growth, and continual improvement initiatives.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement and the adoption of new technologies within the business.
- Help identify opportunities that create additional value for clients and communities.
About you
We're seeking technically strong, commercially aware engineers who enjoy collaborative working and take a proactive approach to solving complex challenges. You will be confident leading multidisciplinary teams, developing client relationships, and delivering high-quality solutions while supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Strong experience delivering civil infrastructure projects within consultancy, contractor, client, or water authority environments.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered status with Institute of Civil Engineers or an equivalent institution OR extensive industry experience with a proven track record of delivering value.
- Proven experience working within multidisciplinary project environments and leading technical delivery.
- A passion for solving complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
- A commitment to innovation, sustainability and technical excellence.
- Water sector experience, or a strong understanding of UK water company operations, regulatory drivers, framework delivery models, and capital investment programmes.
