Shape the Future of Flood Risk and Drainage Consultancy

Lucion Delta-Simons is looking for an ambitious and experienced Associate / Associate Director – Flood Risk & Drainage to join our growing multidisciplinary consultancy.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior flood risk and drainage professional who is ready to lead projects, develop client relationships, grow a service line, and help shape the next stage of our business.

You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of development and infrastructure projects, providing strategic and technical advice from early feasibility and planning through to detailed design and delivery.

Working alongside our wider environmental, planning, and technical teams, you’ll have the opportunity to bring together technical expertise, commercial thinking, and collaborative leadership to deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients.

🌧️ The Opportunity

As an Associate / Associate Director, you’ll play a key role in the continued growth of our Flood Risk & Drainage service.

You’ll combine hands-on technical delivery with project leadership, client management, and business development. You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor and develop colleagues, helping build a high-performing team for the future.

Your role will include:

  • Leading and managing flood risk and drainage projects across a range of sectors.
  • Providing expert advice on flood risk, surface water management, and drainage strategy.
  • Preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), drainage strategies, and supporting technical reports.
  • Advising clients and design teams on sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and surface water management.
  • Supporting projects through the planning and development process, including liaison with Local Planning Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, Environment Agency, and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing and interpreting hydrological, hydraulic, and drainage information.
  • Overseeing technical deliverables and ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard, on time, and within budget.
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted technical adviser.
  • Preparing fee proposals, tenders, and scopes of work.
  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities and contributing to the growth of the service line.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across environmental and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Supporting, mentoring, and developing junior and mid-level team members.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the Flood Risk & Drainage team and wider business.

💧 About You

We’re looking for an experienced flood risk and drainage professional who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness and excellent communication skills.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Significant experience in flood risk, drainage, and surface water management consultancy.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Good understanding of UK planning policy, flood risk legislation, and drainage requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of SuDS, surface water management, and drainage design principles.
  • Experience working with Local Planning Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, the Environment Agency, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Strong project management and client-management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness and experience contributing to tenders, fee proposals, and business development.
  • The confidence to lead meetings, manage stakeholders, and provide clear technical advice to clients.
  • Experience of mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
  • For Associate Director level, a proven track record of team leadership, client development, and service-line growth would be highly desirable.
