Eversheds Sutherland
We are Eversheds Sutherland, a global law firm, with more than 5,000 people across over 30 countries. We’re full-service with deep niche and sector experience. Whatever challenge, wherever in the world, we’re equipped and ready to meet it. We live our values, we’re purposeful and purpose-led. So although the world is fast-moving and rapidly changing, we see it as a place where everyone can thrive. We’re ambitious for our clients, our communities – and for you. Whether you’re starting out on your career or well established, whether you’re a lawyer or in business services. If you’re looking for what’s next, we are too.
What to expect
As a lawyer with us, you will work on a diverse range of matters, from regional projects to complex international transactions. You'll develop a global perspective, be encouraged to put ideas into action, and have the opportunity to get involved in new and varied work and initiatives throughout your career.
The Team
Our corporate energy team advises a full spectrum of corporations, utilities, funds, developers, and financial institutions of all sizes, both public and private, on mergers and acquisitions, disposals, corporate finance, private equity investments, and energy-related transactions both domestically and cross-border.
We have a fantastic client base which will provide a suitable candidate the opportunity to gain experience advising some of the world’s largest corporations on their most strategic transactions.
Our global energy group is highly successful, acting on many of the most complex, novel, strategic, and high-value energy and infrastructure transactions in both local and international markets. Within the energy team, we have over 400 lawyers covering the full life cycle of a project, from development, financing, construction, operation, revenue optimization, trading, regulatory, re-financing, and M&A.
The group was founded on low carbon renewable energy generation (such as solar and wind) and battery storage/BESS, which remain core parts of the practice. However, we do not stop there. We have a strong track record operating in other niche areas such as hydrogen, nuclear, interconnectors, data centers, biofuels, carbon offsetting, and oil and gas.
The Role
A successful candidate will be joining a dynamic and successful London-based corporate energy team which has continued to grow over recent years, providing world-class service to high-quality clients operating across a number of jurisdictions. Our firm and our people are all about teamwork, and we have a genuinely collegiate atmosphere. Within the team, you will have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the global energy transition, helping to ensure energy security while supporting the move towards an affordable lower carbon future.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Role and key responsibilities
The role is to replace an existing senior associate within the team and would ideally have 3 to 6 years post-qualification experience.
We are looking for someone who has experience working on M&A, joint ventures, and shareholding arrangements primarily in the energy transition space.
You will be given responsibility from an early stage, helping to coordinate multidisciplinary and international teams, manage due diligence processes, and draft key transaction documents. You will also work directly with clients and intermediaries, becoming a trusted point of contact throughout the transaction lifecycle.
Skills and experience
You must demonstrate a high level of technical skill and competence, market knowledge, sector expertise, and commerciality appropriate for your level of experience.
You should have the ability to manage a varied workload and deal with the competing demands of clients which arise from involvement in a number of separate transactions at once, at the same time supporting the global energy transition.
You should be able to build great relationships with the colleagues you work with in other practice groups and will be expected to have experience of and to continue to play your part in the development of the team by coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
Given the skills and experience expectation, we are seeking a candidate with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience. However, we are happy to hear from anyone who can demonstrate they have the required skills to be a success.
