VolkerRail is a leading multidisciplinary railway infrastructure contractor which comprises of two businesses: Major Projects and Specialist Businesses.
Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working, leading on large, multidisciplinary joint venture and alliance projects.
Specialist Businesses is made up of expert divisions in signalling, track, power, electrification, and piling, and has an in-house plant division and bespoke design teams.
Our Head office is based in J3 Business Park, Doncaster and provides support to the businesses in the following areas: Finance and Payroll, Human Resources, HSQES, Work Winning, Procurement and Fleet.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company’s audit and assurance programme, coordinating external audits including BSI, RISQS, client and regulatory audits.
- Manage ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certification activities, ensuring ongoing compliance and successful audit outcomes.
- Drive the closure of audit findings, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver internal audit programmes covering projects, suppliers and business processes.
- Monitor changes in legislation, standards and industry requirements, ensuring company processes remain compliant.
- Produce assurance reporting, identify trends and support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Manage supplier assurance activities, including supplier approvals and risk assessments.
- Support senior leadership by providing expert advice on quality, compliance and assurance matters.
- Act as deputy to the Head of Quality and support quality-related bid and tender submissions when required.
- Promote a culture of continual improvement, compliance and operational excellence throughout the organisation.

About you
We are looking for an experienced Quality and Assurance professional who is passionate about driving compliance, continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will have a strong background in quality management systems, auditing and assurance within a highly regulated environment, ideally supporting major projects or frameworks.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) membership or be working towards it.
- Internal Auditor qualification and Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 9001.
- Experience managing or delivering audit and assurance programmes across Quality, Health, Safety and Environment disciplines.
- A proven track record of implementing and maintaining Integrated Management Systems (IMS) aligned to ISO 9001 standards.
- Strong knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental legislation and management systems.
- Experience carrying out risk assessments and developing risk-based assurance strategies.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the business.
- Previous line management experience and the ability to lead, coach and develop others.
- A proactive, analytical approach with strong attention to detail and a focus on driving improvement.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project and operational locations when required.

Desirable qualifications and experience include ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 auditing qualifications, Six Sigma training, Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification, and experience within the rail, infrastructure or construction sectors.
