Asylum Crisis Advice Co-ordinator Asylum Crisis West Midlands Project

Salary: £35,570 starting salary (salary range will increase to max £38,510 via the length of service) per annum pro rata.

Contract: Permanent basis (Funding is currently secured until 31 March 2027)

Hours: Part-time 14 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks)

Location: Home Based (please note regular travel to and across the West Midlands is required, including 1 day per week in Coventry). We will consider a UK-based hybrid working option.

Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of empowering people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. We do this by providing expert advice and casework, building the capacity of partner organisations and campaigning on the policies that affect them.

To succeed in the role, you will need to demonstrate:

• Recent experience and detailed working knowledge of the asylum support system
• Recent experience of providing advice around the asylum processes, asylum legislation and related support entitlements
• Knowledge of Public Law, Human Rights Law and Asylum Support law and policy as it applies to asylum support and associated statutory entitlements
• Experience of taking legal instructions from clients and drafting pre-action protocol letters and witness statements.
• Excellent written communication skills and experience in presenting clear and accurate written documents to present evidence and advocate.
• Ability to plan and manage workload within tight timeframes including case management experience, understanding of strategic importance of data recording for monitoring purposes and use Information Technology to the required standard.
• Experience and understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with people from a range of different cultures
• Ability to work to key advice principles such as confidentiality, impartiality and nondirective approaches and a commitment to equality of opportunity.
• Understanding of Safeguarding policy and good practice, experience of working with clients with complex needs and in situation of transition and uncertainty. Ability to use the appropriate ways of handling that impact at work, according to these policies.
