Grade: 13
Salary: £64,000 - £80,000 + Bonus + Benefits
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced technical lead to coordinate ATM security activities across NCR Atleos products and solutions.
This is not a traditional cybersecurity role and it is not purely a physical security role. The position sits across multiple engineering disciplines and covers everything from encryption and authentication technologies through to physical attacks against ATMs, fraud devices, and emerging criminal attack methods.
The successful candidate will work with subject matter experts across mechanical engineering, electronics, firmware, software, encryption, safes, locks, and fraud prevention technologies to investigate threats, assess vulnerabilities, and help define future security solutions.
We're looking for someone with a broad technical background spanning multiple engineering disciplines, strong problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in understanding how products work, how they fail, and how they can be protected.
You do not need to be the expert in every area, but you should be capable of bringing the right experts together, challenging assumptions, and helping drive effective technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead ATM security and fraud prevention activities across NCR Atleos products.
- Coordinate investigations involving subject matter experts from multiple engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical leadership on security-related product decisions and trade-offs.
- Support the development of security roadmaps, future technology direction, and the definition and verification of detailed security requirements for new products and features.
- Act as the technical lead and primary point of contact for complex security and fraud-related issues.
Security & Fraud Analysis
- Investigate current and emerging ATM attack and fraud techniques.
- Assess threats including: Card skimming, PIN capture devices, Cash trapping, Shutter fraud, Malware attacks, Physical tampering, Safe attacks, Forced-entry techniques.
- Support root cause investigations and development of effective countermeasures.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging criminal attack methods.

Product Security
- Review and assess ATM security architectures, working with internal and external security specialists, penetration testers, and subject matter experts where required.
- Evaluate encryption, key management, and authentication technologies.
- Assess risks across hardware, software, firmware, electronic, and mechanical systems.
- Support threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and risk analysis activities.
- Ensure security considerations are incorporated into product development activities.
Collaboration & Industry Engagement
- Work closely with product management, engineering teams, service organizations, and customers.
- Engage with suppliers and industry groups on ATM security and fraud prevention topics.
- Support security-related industry standards, certifications, and compliance activities.
- Provide guidance and training on security best practices where required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience working within engineering, product security, ATM, payments, embedded systems, electronics, or related technical environments.
- Experience working in an engineering environment where security, reliability, or safety is important.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand complex systems involving hardware, software, and electronics.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with subject matter experts, cross-functional teams, and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technical investigations, security activities, or product security initiatives within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in some of the following areas would be beneficial:
- ATM, banking, or payments technologies.
- Physical security systems.
- Embedded systems, firmware, or electronics.
- Cryptography, encryption, and key management.
- Authentication and secure communications technologies.
- Fraud prevention technologies.
- Product security engineering.
- Hardware security.
- Risk assessment and vulnerability analysis.
- PCI standards.
- UL, EN, or similar security certifications and standards.

What We're Looking For
The successful candidate is likely to have a broad engineering background and an interest in security rather than a purely IT security background.
This role would suit someone who enjoys learning across multiple technical disciplines and is comfortable working with specialists covering areas such as encryption, firmware, electronics, safes, locks, sensors, and fraud prevention technologies.
We're looking for someone who is practical, technically curious, and able to connect the dots between physical security, electronics, software, and emerging attack techniques.
This role is unlikely to suit candidates whose experience is limited to traditional IT security disciplines such as network security, SOC operations, or compliance activities. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working across physical security, electronics, embedded systems, software, firmware, and fraud prevention technologies.
