At Universal Quantum, we aim to make the world a better place by engineering the future of computing. Together, we are creating truly impactful quantum computers. Our machines will be capable of solving problems until now considered impossible, with applications ranging across a broad range of industries including healthcare, materials and aerospace. We are looking to hire an Atomic Operations Designer to design, model and characterise operations based on the interaction between ions and laser and microwave fields.

What You'll Accomplish
- Design methods for atom-light operations such as sub-Doppler cooling, state preparation and detection and quantum gates
- Contribute to the development of accurate physics models describing atom-light interactions
- Work with the hardware teams to implement methods on our devices
- Analyse experimental results and compare them against predictions from models

Requirements
The 3 Most Critical Attributes We'll Use to Compare Candidates
- Experience in designing atom-light interaction protocols for quantum technologies
- Strong background in atomic physics research
- A proven track record of collaboration with experimental research groups and/or quantum hardware industry
Must-have Skills (in addition to the above):
- Proficient in writing scientific code e.g. using Python
- PhD in atomic physics
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Experience in quantum computing or quantum technologies
- Experience in modelling open quantum systems
