What Difference Will You Make?
The Volunteer Audio Editor will play an important role in improving the quality and professionalism of Daz In The Hat Radio CIC’s programmes. As a not-for-profit, volunteer-led internet radio station, we rely on the skills, experience, and commitment of volunteers to keep the station broadcasting 24 hours a day.
One of our main aims is to provide unsigned and independent artists with opportunities to have their music heard by audiences around the world. Many independent artists receive limited exposure on mainstream radio, so our interviews, live sessions, and specialist shows provide an important platform for artists to promote their music, tell their stories, and connect with new listeners.
The Audio Editor will help us ensure that these recordings are produced to a professional standard. By editing interviews and programmes, improving sound quality, balancing audio levels, and removing unwanted material, they will help create engaging and enjoyable content for our listeners.
The role will be particularly valuable in supporting our recorded artist interviews and live music sessions. Professionally edited content can also be used to promote artists and the station through our website, social media, and other digital platforms, helping us reach wider audiences.
Having a dedicated Audio Editor will also reduce the workload on presenters and other volunteers. This will allow team members to concentrate on their own areas of responsibility, including presenting, finding and supporting new music, administration, publicity, and developing new projects.
As the station grows, maintaining consistent production standards is increasingly important. The Audio Editor will help us build a library of high-quality programmes that reflect positively on both the station and the artists we support.
Their contribution will therefore have an impact beyond simply editing audio. They will be helping independent musicians gain greater exposure, improving the experience of our listeners, and strengthening the overall professionalism and sustainability of our Community Interest Company.
By volunteering their skills, the Audio Editor will directly contribute to our mission of supporting unsigned and independent artists while creating opportunities for people to participate, learn, and gain practical experience within radio, media, and broadcasting.

The most important requirement is practical experience in audio editing and production. The volunteer should be confident using software such as Audacity, Adobe Audition, or similar professional audio-editing software and be able to take raw recordings and turn them into clear, professional, broadcast-ready content.
They should understand basic audio production techniques, including balancing sound levels, reducing background noise, removing unwanted sections, editing speech and music, and creating smooth transitions. Experience editing radio programmes, podcasts, interviews, live music, or other spoken-word content would be particularly useful.
Key Skills and Qualities We Are Looking For
- Previous practical experience in audio editing
- Confidence using Audacity, Adobe Audition, or similar software
- A good ear for sound quality and attention to detail
- Ability to edit speech, music, and interviews to a professional standard
- Understanding of audio levels, noise reduction, and basic audio processing

- Reliable and able to work independently without constant supervision
- Good communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with presenters and other volunteers
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating through email, WhatsApp, and online meetings
- Ability to follow instructions while also using their own judgment and creativity
- Respect for confidentiality and unpublished material
- An interest in radio, music, broadcasting, or the wider media industry
Because we operate remotely and have volunteers in different locations, reliability and communication are particularly important. The Audio Editor will need to manage their own workload, keep other team members informed of progress, and let us know promptly if they are unable to meet an agreed deadline.
An interest in unsigned and independent music would be an advantage. We want someone who understands the importance of giving emerging artists opportunities to have their work heard and who takes pride in presenting their music and interviews professionally.
Formal qualifications in audio production are welcome but are not essential. We are more interested in practical ability, experience, reliability, and enthusiasm. This role could suit someone already experienced in audio production who wants to contribute their skills to a community organization or someone developing a career in radio, podcasting, music production, or broadcasting who wants further practical experience.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is dependable, creative, professional, and passionate about producing good-quality audio, and who would enjoy being part of a friendly international volunteer team supporting independent music.

We support unsigned and independent artists from around the world while providing volunteers with opportunities to gain practical experience in radio, media, and broadcasting.

We are looking for an experienced Volunteer Audio Editor to work remotely as part of our team and help maintain a professional standard across our radio shows, artist interviews, and live music recordings.
The volunteer’s main responsibility will be to take recorded audio and prepare it for broadcast. This will include editing shows and interviews, removing mistakes, unwanted sections, excessive pauses, and background noise where appropriate. They will improve sound quality, balance audio levels, and ensure speech and music are clear and consistent.
Where required, the Audio Editor will add station jingles, introductions, outros, and other production elements to create a professional finished programme.
An important priority will be editing interviews and live sessions featuring unsigned and independent artists. These programmes form an important part of our work, giving emerging artists opportunities to have their music and stories heard by wider audiences.
The Audio Editor will work with presenters and other members of our remote volunteer team. Good communication will be important when receiving recordings, understanding editing requirements, and ensuring completed programmes are returned within agreed timescales.
