NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The Role
To support clinical care by providing a comprehensive, accurate and timely outpatient and inpatient transcription service to clinicians and other clinical staff. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high quality patient care by ensuring clinical correspondence and documentation are processed efficiently and in line with NHS standards, policies and procedures.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a or a NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- 2 x Fixed Term Roles
- Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Govan Road, G51 4TF
- 36 Hours - Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities
The Audio Typist will provide a comprehensive transcription and administrative support service to clinicians and the wider clinical team. Duties include:
- The transcription of outpatient clinic dictation, medical letters, reports for external agencies such as the Department for Work and Pensions, and discharge summaries.
- Undertake data entry on clinical systems to support patient follow-up requirements.
- File clinic letters through Winscribe to the Clinical Portal (EPR).
- Ensure typing is completed within agreed quality standards and turnaround times.
- Providing telephone cover.
- Scanning documents to the Clinical Portal.
- Processing SCI Gateway referrals.
- Printing typed correspondence and maintaining filing systems where required.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Supporting a safe working environment.
- Participating in Personal Development Planning and Review.
- Complying with information governance legislation including GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
- Undertaking statutory and mandatory training.
- Demonstrating NHS Scotland and NHSGGC values through a professional, respectful and patient-centred approach to work.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Previous audio typing or medical transcription experience.
- Excellent keyboard and typing skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Good knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.
- Experience of working with computerised systems and databases.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of confidentiality and information governance requirements.
- Awareness of GDPR, Access to Health Records legislation, Freedom of Information legislation and Caldicott principles.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to undertaking all statutory and mandatory training requirements.
- Willingness to participate in Personal Development Planning and Review.
