Audio Visual Technician

We are looking for an experienced Audio Visual Technician to join a prestigious Birmingham venue in a largely standalone position, taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of onsite AV services.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the delivery of meetings, conferences, corporate events and live productions. You will be responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining a wide range of professional AV, audio, video, lighting and conferencing equipment while providing a high standard of technical support to clients and event teams.

You will also work closely with internal departments and third-party AV and production contractors when required.

The position would suit a confident AV Technician with experience working within a conference venue, corporate events environment, hotel, live events venue or similar client-facing setting.

Salary

Up to £34,500

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate and dismantle AV equipment for meetings, conferences and live events.
  • Provide technical support across meeting rooms and larger event spaces.
  • Carry out daily checks of AV-equipped rooms to ensure systems are operational and ready for use.
  • Provide first-line technical support for clients, including laptop connectivity, displays, presentation systems, Wi-Fi and video conferencing.
  • Set up and operate wired and wireless microphone systems, digital audio consoles and portable production equipment.
  • Operate video switching, projection, PTZ camera and presentation systems.
  • Support live events with audio, video, lighting and production requirements.
  • Assist with filming, streaming and hybrid event requirements.
  • Work with internal IT teams and external specialists on networking and connectivity requirements.
  • Set up and operate basic event lighting, including DMX-controlled and automated lighting systems.
  • Move and distribute AV equipment between event spaces as required.
  • Maintain AV equipment, storage areas and technical control rooms to a high standard.
  • Assist with equipment inventory and stock management.
  • Work alongside and provide technical guidance to external AV and production contractors.
  • Support event and stage builds, including staging and associated production equipment.
  • Assist with general venue and event setup where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant Health & Safety procedures.
  • Support risk assessments, safe working practices and contractor compliance.
  • Report equipment faults, technical issues and potential safety concerns promptly.
  • Provide a professional and customer-focused service throughout all events.
  • Assist with opening and closing responsibilities when required.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous professional experience working as an AV Technician, Event Technician, Venue Technician or similar.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and dismantling AV equipment for live events.
  • Strong knowledge of professional audio, video, projection and presentation equipment.
  • Experience operating digital audio mixing consoles and wired/wireless microphone systems.
  • Experience with professional projectors, video switchers and PTZ camera systems.
  • Good understanding of video conferencing and hybrid meeting technology.
  • Knowledge of IT connectivity, networking and LAN environments.
  • Experience with lighting systems, including DMX and automated lighting.
  • An understanding of live streaming and event recording workflows would be advantageous.
  • Good troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve technical problems quickly.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within an AV, events or production environment.
  • Experience completing or working with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Confidence working with external production and AV contractors.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional when working under pressure.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider events team.

Additional Requirements

This is a hands-on events position, so candidates should be comfortable with the physical aspects of setting up and dismantling equipment.

The role will also require flexibility around event schedules, which may occasionally include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

You will be joining an established venue team where collaboration, customer service and high technical standards are central to delivering successful events.
