We’re looking for a talented Audit Director who thrives in a dynamic environment and embraces the chance to tackle complex challenges. You will be an experienced Senior Manager looking to take the next step in your career, or a Director that is looking to further establish yourself at this level. Your work in Audit will go beyond the numbers – it’s about building meaningful client relationships, understanding their businesses, navigating risks, and delivering insights that drive real results.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a substantial portfolio of OMB, private equity-backed, overseas-owned and large corporate clients across a range of sectors, acting as the primary relationship lead and trusted business adviser.
- Take overall responsibility for the delivery, quality, profitability and risk management of client engagements, ensuring exceptional client service and compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Work closely with Partners to deliver the firm's strategic objectives, contributing to the growth, direction and success of the Audit team, office and wider firm.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key client stakeholders, identifying opportunities to expand services, enhance client value and increase fee income across the portfolio.
- Lead on complex and high-risk audit engagements, providing technical expertise, commercial insight and practical solutions to clients and engagement teams.
- Drive business development activity through networking, market engagement, developing professional referrer relationships and leveraging existing contacts to generate new client opportunities.
- Take ownership of resourcing, workflow management and engagement profitability across the portfolio, ensuring teams are deployed effectively and projects are delivered within budget and timescale expectations.
- Act as a role model and leader within the team, inspiring and developing Senior Managers, Managers and wider team members through coaching, mentoring and performance management.
- Support the recruitment, retention and succession planning of talent within the Audit team, helping to build a high-performing and inclusive culture.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement and best practice, encouraging teams to challenge existing approaches and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and client experience.
- Develop and maintain a strong external profile in the marketplace, representing the firm at industry events, networking forums and client functions to enhance MHA's reputation and market presence.
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives, strategic projects and cross-service line collaboration, supporting the continued growth and success of MHA.

Qualifications and Skills

- Fully qualified ACA/ACCA with experience in external audit, accounts and general practice
- Experience working with OMBs, SMEs & larger businesses covering a range of industries
- Excellent technical knowledge, UK GAAP, FRS102, FRS101 and IFRS
- Competent user of MS Excel & Word. Experience of Sage, CaseWare and tax software preferred
- Demonstrable ability to motivate, delegate effectively, develop the team and be a strong leader
- Client focus and able to think commercially – able to seek out opportunities within the portfolio
- Communication – oral and written, ability to deal with variety of people in different environments
- Organisational skills – the ability to successfully manage conflicting priorities
- Diplomacy and patience
- Able to understand complex business issues and offer practical solutions
