Description

An Audit Trainee supports the delivery of external audit assignments by assisting with the examination of financial records, testing controls, and verifying financial information. Working under the supervision of senior auditors, the role involves preparing audit working papers, analysing financial data, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Audit Trainee also communicates professionally with clients, maintains accurate documentation, and contributes to the timely completion of audit engagements while developing technical knowledge and professional skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and completing external audit assignments for a range of clients.
  • Perform substantive testing and tests of controls in line with audit programmes.
  • Prepare accurate and well-organised audit working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Review financial records, transactions, and supporting evidence to verify accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, errors, or potential risks to senior team members.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audit reports where required.
  • Liaise professionally with clients to obtain information and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure audit work complies with relevant accounting standards, auditing standards, and firm policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly.
  • Support senior auditors with administrative tasks and contribute to meeting engagement deadlines.
  • Keep up to date with changes in accounting, auditing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development, including progress towards a recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA or ACCA).

Key Requirements

  • Entry-level role suitable for recent graduates and school leavers.
  • Working towards ACA/ACCA is desirable.
  • At least 3 A Levels at grade B or above.
  • At least 9 GCSEs, including a minimum grade 6 in Maths, English Language, English Literature, and Science.
  • Hold a driver’s licence.
