About the role
Berghahn Books is looking for an organised and enthusiastic Author Relations & Marketing Assistant to join our Marketing team in Oxford. Working closely with the Marketing Manager and Marketing Executive, you will coordinate author and contributor communications and outreach, manage key post-publication touchpoints, and support wider marketing and promotional activity.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in academic publishing and marketing, who enjoys working with people and takes pride in keeping things organised.
What you'll be doing
Author & Contributor Relations
- Coordinate author and contributor communications, outreach and post-publication care.
- Manage Author Promotion Forms (APFs), including outreach, follow-up and handover into marketing activity.
- Coordinate promotional support including author flyers, review collation and review-copy requests.
- Maintain author and contributor records and tracking and collate feedback and recurring queries.
Marketing Support
- Assist with targeted marketing campaigns, promotions and outreach.
- Coordinate awards submissions, including tracking deadlines, requirements and outcomes.
- Support reader-facing communications across relevant marketing channels.
- Collate incoming reviews and media coverage, maintaining records and tracking outstanding review activity and responses.
- Coordinate with colleagues across departments to support effective campaigns and handovers.
- Maintain marketing records, tracking and reporting.
- Provide wider administrative and coordination support to the Marketing team.

About you
We're looking for someone with:
- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- strong organisation and attention to detail;
- an interest in building positive relationships with authors and contributors;
- an interest in marketing and connecting books with readers;
- confidence learning new systems and managing multiple priorities; and
- a proactive, collaborative approach.
Previous publishing or marketing experience would be helpful but is not essential. More important are strong communication and organisational skills, curiosity, reliability and enthusiasm for learning.
