1:1 Autism Support Assistant - Four-Day Week
Location: Morden, South West London
Hours: Monday-Thursday | 8:30am-4:30pm
Contract: Permanent | Term-Time Only
Working Week: Four Days

Probation: Three months

This isn't a role where you'll spend your week moving between different classrooms and pupils.
You'll have one clear focus: helping one child with autism feel confident, included and increasingly independent at school.
A welcoming school in Morden is looking for a dedicated 1:1 Autism Support Assistant to become a consistent part of a child's school experience.
And there's another significant difference.
You'll work Monday to Thursday during term time, giving you a regular three-day weekend while still having the security of a permanent position.
Get to Know the Child, Not Just the Diagnosis
Every autistic child experiences school differently.
Something that feels routine to another pupil might feel overwhelming.
Communication may happen differently.
A change of plan might create anxiety.
A busy classroom may sometimes become too much.
Your role will be to understand this particular child - what helps them engage, what they enjoy, how they communicate and when they need additional support.
You'll work closely with teachers and the school's SEND team to provide consistent support throughout the day.

You May Already Work As a

But relevant experience could also come from childcare, youth work, children's services, care or residential support.
We're Particularly Interested In Someone Who
- Has experience supporting children with autism, SEND or additional needs.
- Is calm, patient and emotionally consistent.
- Understands that behaviour can be a form of communication.
- Takes time to understand the individual rather than relying on one approach.
- Can build trust while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Encourages independence rather than creating dependency.
- Communicates well with children and adults.
- Is dependable - particularly important in a consistent 1:1 role.
- Genuinely enjoys helping children participate and succeed.

Formal qualifications are welcomed, but your experience, approach and ability to connect with children matter just as much.
An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one, and satisfactory references will be required.
This Role Offers
