Kick-start your career in the automotive industry as an Autocare Technician Apprentice

You will gain hands-on experience servicing, maintaining and repairing vehicles whilst working towards the Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced technicians and learn how to:

• Carry out routine vehicle servicing and maintenance
• Assist with inspections and health checks on customer vehicles
• Learn to identify and diagnose basic vehicle faults using specialist tools and diagnostic equipment
• Remove, repair and replace vehicle components
• Work on tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, batteries and exhaust systems
• Carry out repairs in line with manufacturer and industry standards
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
• Follow health, safety and environmental procedures
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
• Support stock control and workshop operations when required

The Level 2 Autocare Technician standard

Covers servicing and repair work on cars, light vans and other light vehicles, whilst developing technical, problem-solving and customer service skills.

Remove, repair and replace vehicle tyre and balance wheel assemblies on car, car derived van or light goods vehicle. For example, ultra-low profile, directional, asymmetric, run-flat tyres. Inspect, remove, and replace of parts or components in cars, car derived vans, or light goods vehicles for the following: steering systems and suspension systems, braking systems, emission systems, air conditioning systems, battery and charging systems, fluid and filtration systems. Apply state-of-health condition monitoring tests to high voltage batteries and chargers for electrified cars, car derived vans, or light goods vehicles. Apply four-wheel geometry checks and adjustments to cars, car derived vans, and light goods vehicles. Apply safe working practices and procedures to isolate electrified vehicles for maintenance. Record vehicle service maintenance, parts replacement, or repair. Apply customer service principles and organisational customer care practices. For example, identifying customer and vehicle needs, resolve low level customer complaints, make recommendations to customers based on results of inspection, maintenance, or repair of vehicles, customer payment transactions and organisational sales processes. Provide quotation of cost and order automotive parts, products, and consumables applicable to the vehicle. Apply procedures for stock and parts storage: ordering, checking and stock rotation.
