Senior Automation Developer – Network & Infrastructure
6-Month Contract | Application Delivery Engineering | Global Infrastructure | Hybrid
About the Role
My client is looking for an experienced Senior Automation Developer to join their Application Delivery Engineering team on an initial 6-month contract.
This is a software development and automation-led role, focused on building the tooling, frameworks, APIs and automated workflows that underpin large-scale enterprise infrastructure.
You will be responsible for developing production-quality Python automation, integrating APIs, building Infrastructure as Code capabilities and creating automated testing and deployment workflows.
Networking and application delivery knowledge is important, but the core focus of the role is development and automation.
You will work across platforms including F5 Load Balancing and Infoblox DNS/DHCP, developing automation that enables these services to be deployed, configured, tested and consumed through repeatable, API-driven processes.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Development
- Design, develop and maintain production-quality Python automation for enterprise infrastructure.
- Build reusable automation frameworks, libraries, modules and tooling.
- Develop automated workflows for infrastructure provisioning, configuration, validation and lifecycle management.
- Replace manual infrastructure processes with fully automated, repeatable workflows.
- Develop tooling that can be reused across multiple infrastructure platforms and environments.
- Refactor and enhance existing automation to improve reliability, scalability and maintainability.
- Implement robust logging, error handling, exception management and operational reporting.
- Develop solutions that enable infrastructure teams to consume services through self-service automation.
Python Development
- Write clean, modular, maintainable and testable Python code.
- Develop Python applications that interact with infrastructure platforms and APIs.
- Build automation libraries and reusable components rather than one-off scripts.
- Develop automated data processing, configuration generation and validation capabilities.
- Implement unit and integration testing for automation code.
- Participate in peer code reviews and follow established development standards.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex Python applications and automation workflows.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
