Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for keeping advanced automation systems operating at peak performance? Here at GXO, we're looking for an Automation Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team at a cutting-edge distribution operation in Crick, Northamptonshire. You'll play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and performance of a highly automated warehouse environment, supporting a range of technologies including conveyors, sortation equipment, and automated handling systems. Working closely with operational and support teams, you'll be responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance activities, fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives that keep the operation moving. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified engineer who enjoys working in a complex, fast-moving environment and is committed to safety, quality, and engineering excellence.

This is a full time, permanent position working in the Panama shift of 2-2-3 or 2-3-2 schedule from 07:00 to 19:00

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £51,000.00 per annum, and 24 days annual leave (including bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance across automated warehouse equipment and systems
  • Diagnose automation faults, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective repair solutions
  • Ensure all engineering activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with site standards and KPIs
  • Complete technical audits, maintenance records, and engineering reports to support asset management and compliance
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance and operational efficiency

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • A recognised electrical and mechanical engineering qualification, such as ONC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent
  • Experience maintaining warehouse automation technologies, including conveyors, sortation systems, AGVs, or similar automated equipment
  • Strong fault-finding capabilities within a complex, fast-paced operational environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across operational and technical teams
  • A proactive, detail-focused approach with a commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and delivering high engineering standards
