Automation Engineer

Middleton, Manchester

Up to £58,000 inclusive of shift allowance + 5% Bonus

Full Time | Rotating Shifts

Are you an Automation Engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, improving manufacturing performance, and driving continuous improvement?

At Mizkan Euro, we're looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to play a key role in supporting our manufacturing operations, enhancing automation systems, and helping our engineering teams deliver world-class performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading FMCG manufacturer where you'll work with cutting-edge automation technology, including Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, while helping shape the future of our engineering capability.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Automation Engineer, you'll be the site's automation specialist, providing technical expertise and support across our manufacturing operation.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Supporting shift engineers with troubleshooting and technical guidance
  • Maintaining and improving PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Working closely with Engineering and Operations teams to deliver automation projects and process improvements.
  • Coaching and mentoring engineers to develop automation knowledge across the site
  • Conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions to recurring issues
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives that improve reliability, efficiency, and performance
  • Ensuring automation systems remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with electrically biased engineers who have a passion for automation and continuous improvement.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience working with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs
  • Strong knowledge of automation, control systems, HMI, and SCADA platforms
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, or another fast-paced production environment
  • A recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting other engineers
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, sensors, and instrumentation would be advantageous

Shift Pattern

Week 1

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:00am to 2:00pm
  • Friday: 6:00am to 1:00pm

Week 2

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:15am to 5:45pm
  • Friday: 11:00am to 4:00pm
