About The Role
As an Automation Engineer at Amazon TA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of automated systems across our facilities. Your expertise will help optimize the performance of control systems, sensors, and material handling equipment to support our fast-paced logistics operations. You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated machinery, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. This role places you at the cutting edge of Amazon's technological advancements, enabling you to solve complex productivity challenges through innovative automation solutions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including global colleagues and local technicians, will be essential to successfully implement improvements and support new equipment installations. Your technical skills and proactive approach will directly impact our ability to deliver on our promise of timely and reliable customer service.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess relevant technical expertise and experience, including:
- Proficiency with PLC-controlled automation systems, with experience diagnosing issues in continuous process or production environments.
- Hands-on experience with material handling, flow visualization, and capacity monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of automation tools such as Microsoft Office, project management software, and EPLAN.
- Experience programming ladder logic and structured text for PLCs from Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys platforms.
- Familiarity with SCADA platforms like Ignition and Human Machine Interface (HMI) development.
- Understanding of industrial communication networks such as EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus, and fieldbus systems like AS-i.
- Experience working with VFDs, safety gateways, and input/output devices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the local language.

Preferred candidates will have a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, industrial electronics, or related fields, along with experience working within ISO 13849 and ISO 62061 frameworks. Additional advantages include project management experience across methodologies like Agile and Waterfall, familiarity with Six Sigma, data analysis, and process improvement techniques, and prior experience in multi-site environments.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair issues with key automated systems, ensuring continuous operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with the EU Controls network to analyze and interpret Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
- Create data visualizations and reports to communicate troubleshooting insights and system performance to internal stakeholders.
- Lead or contribute to continuous improvement projects within the EU Controls network, driving operational enhancements.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure all systems are properly documented, and backup libraries are maintained accurately.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of new automation equipment in collaboration with global teams.
- Support other sites within the EU Controls network as needed, sharing expertise and best practices.
- Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, developing strategies for system improvements in compliance with IEC 61131-3 standards.
- Provide training and guidance to engineering technicians on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and control system management.
