Automation Engineer - FinTech - Payments - AI
An exciting opportunity has opened for an Automation Engineer to join a rapidly growing Payments FinTech. We are looking for a highly hands-on automation specialist who can design, build and evolve robust automated testing frameworks across critical payments platforms.
You will:
- Design, build and maintain API-focused automation frameworks.
- Develop automated tests using Java, with the opportunity to work increasingly with Golang.
- Extend frameworks using REST Assured, Postman/Newman and internal tooling.
- Build contract-testing, data-driven and performance-testing frameworks.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Work closely with Software Engineers, Product and manual QA teams to improve overall quality and test coverage.
- Contribute to engineering standards, code reviews and best practices around automation.
- Leverage AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to improve test development, automation efficiency and engineering workflows.

Essential experience:
- Strong hands-on experience building automation frameworks from scratch.
- Deep knowledge of API automation and contract testing.
- Strong Java/JVM coding ability, with an interest or experience in Golang.
- Experience with AWS and cloud-based environments.
- Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or equivalent CI/CD tooling.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean code and test architecture.
Background:
- Proven experience within a FinTech, Payments or Tier 1 Banking environment.
- 5+ years' experience in Automation Testing, including significant experience building and owning automation frameworks.
- Strong hands-on programming and automation engineering background.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment with a high degree of technical ownership.
- Familiar and active user of AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or equivalent.

Desirable:
- Experience with fuzz, contract and performance testing.
- JMeter, Gatling or k6.
- Playwright, Selenium or Cypress.
- Experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
- Knowledge of ISO 20022, card processing, payment schemes or open banking.
- Experience working with Golang or transitioning automation frameworks from Java into Golang.
