Automation Engineer – London On-Call Support (CRITICAL)
Position Purpose
The Automation Engineer joins a high-performing, technically skilled team—with expertise in both mechanical and controls systems—to deliver rapid troubleshooting solutions for clients in the London region. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing service quality while establishing strong local client relationships.
Primarily based within the London On-Call support team, the Engineer will:
- Respond to day-to-day client needs (site visits, issue resolution, and maintenance).
- Directly support upgrades and installations of new and legacy projects within London, collaborating with broader TAIT divisions.
Job Responsibilities
London On-Call Support Rotations
- Provide 24/7 on-call coverage (minimum 120 days/year) as the primary point of contact during scheduled shifts.
- Maintain and develop strong client relationships in London, prioritising satisfaction and trust-building.
- Deliver remote & on-site support—resolving client issues efficiently while meeting 90-minute mobilisation targets for West End sites.
- Own and expedite ticket resolution for London-based issues, ensuring timely client support.
- High level of professionalism in collating troubleshooting contingency plans to minimise any downtime.
Project-Based Responsibilities
- Support fit-up, handover, and ongoing maintenance phases of touring projects in London’s West End, ensuring consistency and quality throughout show runs.
- Work closely with the Wakefield Integration team to align and transition projects seamlessly into London-based support.
- Conduct commissioning tests for permanent installations, expanding expertise in TAIT automation architectures and evolving technologies.
- Assist in client advocacy, proactively identifying opportunities for service improvement.

General Department Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to support project delivery and knowledge sharing.
- Actively engage in training programmes to stay current with TAIT tools, standards, and best practices.
- Contribute to internal documentation, lessons learned reviews, and feedback mechanics to optimize team performance.
- Operate under TAIT policies & procedures, adhering to company expectations in all assigned tasks.
Qualifications & Essential Criteria
Significant Experience (Requirements)
- Proven experience in the entertainment industry, with focus on:
- Automation deployment & troubleshooting in a critical on-call environment.
- Ability to work autonomously in fast-paced theatre touring / venue automation environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Specific technical skills:
- TAIT iQ (configuration & debugging).
- TAIT Navigator configuration & problem solving.
- Stage Technologies eChameleon maintenance & configuration.
- Kinesys Apex system configurations for automated rigging.
- Soft Skills & Professional Transferable Competencies:
- Strong analytical problem-solving, especially in complex engineering environments.
- Exceptional communication—transparent, written, and verbal—to explain solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative & influencer mindset to build trust with diverse teams and clients.
- Ability to manage political dynamics favourably for the company.
- Ability to embrace ambiguity and maintain a prototypical learning mindset in fast-moving teams.
- Impeccable judgement & integrity, with a track record of quick decision-making under pressure.

Physical & Work Conditions
- On-call Rota: Must be available 24/7 (minimum 120 shift days/year), including nights/weekends.
- Travel Requirements:
- Daily commutes/commute times into London for site visits.
- Willingness to travel to other TAIT sites and office locations both in the UK and internationally if needed.
- Central hub at Home Office of King’s Cross (minimum 2 days/week attendance required).
- Core working hours are 08:00–17:00, with additional support available as needed for critical out-of-hours issues.
