About The Role
As an Automation Engineer at Amazon TA, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the automated systems that drive our fulfillment operations. This role involves ensuring the seamless operation of complex automation machinery, including conveyors, sortation systems, and material handling equipment across our regional sites within London. You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing key systems to minimize downtime and optimize performance. This position requires frequent travel between sites—approximately 50% of your weekly time—to support multiple locations, implement improvements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Your expertise will be instrumental in interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings, developing strategies for system improvements, and supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment. You will work closely with colleagues across Europe and globally, sharing best practices and innovative solutions to complex productivity challenges. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment.
- Proficiency in supporting a wide range of conveyors and sortation systems.
- Engineering Degree in UK Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC), BTEC National Diploma and Certificate (OND/D), NVQ III/IV/V in Engineering Manufacture, or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience with PLC-controlled automation systems.
- Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft Office, project management platforms, EPLAN, Ladder Logic, and programming platforms like Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys PLCs.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems such as Ignition, HMI interfaces, EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus, AS-i networks, VFDs, safety gateways, and input/output devices.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical drawings and development of improvement strategies aligned with IEC 61131-3 standards.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair critical automation systems to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with the EU Controls network to oversee material handling equipment (MHE) metrics and system health.
- Provide data visualizations and troubleshooting insights to internal stakeholders for informed decision-making.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing automation processes across sites.
- Ensure all systems are accurately documented, with up-to-date backup libraries and technical records.
- Support the installation, commissioning, and integration of new automation equipment in collaboration with global teams.
- Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings to develop and implement system improvements and code conforming to IEC standards.
- Work with different departments to coordinate maintenance activities, upgrades, and safety compliance.
- Share technical knowledge with colleagues, including training technicians on troubleshooting and preventative maintenance techniques.
