Gallery Automation Engineer / Specialist – Contract

Location: Osterley, London

Contract Duration: 6 Months

Working Hours: Standard hours of 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional overtime, late shifts and weekend work

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Gallery Automation Engineer / Specialist to support live broadcast operations across news, sports and racing channels, with future expansion into additional broadcast content areas. This role will focus on automating gallery workflows, supporting live and near-live productions, and contributing to system upgrades and transformation initiatives. You will work at the intersection of editorial, production and technical teams, ensuring reliable integration between newsroom systems, studio automation and graphics workflows. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with gallery automation systems and a thorough understanding of live broadcast production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot automated, rundown-driven gallery workflows.
  • Support vision mixer control, graphics triggering, and clip and source recall through automation systems.
  • Provide technical support for live and near-live broadcast productions, ensuring automation responds reliably to editorial and time-critical changes.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across editorial, newsroom, automation and gallery systems.
  • Support testing, validation and operational readiness for automation updates, templates and gallery changes.
  • Work closely with editorial, production and engineering teams to bridge business requirements and technical solutions.
  • Support system upgrades, integrations and transformation initiatives across broadcast environments.
  • Help maintain consistent gallery workflows and improve operational reliability.
  • Contribute to the standardisation and optimisation of automation templates and production processes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Ross OverDrive and Caprica in live broadcast environments.
  • Proven understanding of newsroom-to-gallery workflows using OpenMedia, Ross Inception and iNews.
  • Deep understanding of MOS workflows and editorial metadata flow.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting rundown-driven gallery automation.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues across editorial, automation and gallery systems during live output.
  • Strong understanding of newsroom, studio gallery and live production workflows.
  • Experience testing and validating automation changes in operational broadcast environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in live news production environments.
  • Knowledge of graphics system integration, including VizRT, Chyron and Unity.
  • Familiarity with template-based automation design and gallery standardisation.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, including AWS.
  • Experience supporting broadcast system upgrades, integrations and transformation projects.
