Lead the evolution of modern test automation within a forward-thinking software business that's investing heavily in engineering excellence and AI-powered development.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Automation Engineer who enjoys shaping quality practices, mentoring others, and driving automation strategy—not just writing automated tests. This is an opportunity to influence how an engineering organization approaches testing, embedding modern automation practices while championing the use of AI to improve software quality and delivery.
The Opportunity
You'll act as the technical lead for automation engineering, helping define best practices, improving automation frameworks, and working closely with Product and Engineering teams to ensure quality is built into every stage of the software development lifecycle.
This role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership and mentoring, making it ideal for someone who enjoys improving engineering capability across a wider team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and evolving the organization's automation testing strategy.
- Developing and maintaining automated test frameworks using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Championing AI-assisted testing practices and identifying opportunities to improve engineering productivity through AI tools and agentic workflows.
- Driving a shift-left testing approach, ensuring quality is considered from requirements through to production.
- Designing and executing automated UI, API, and end-to-end test suites.
- Supporting performance, security, accessibility, and compatibility testing.
- Integrating automated testing into modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Working closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and QA colleagues to improve quality across the platform.
- Mentoring and coaching other engineers while helping establish consistent automation standards.
- Producing meaningful quality metrics and recommending continuous improvements to testing processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
