Automation Tester
Location: Newcastle (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week)
Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with strong intention to convert to permanent)
Clearance: SC Eligible
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation Tester to join a high-profile technology programme delivering business-critical SaaS solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated testing solutions while supporting quality assurance activities across the software development lifecycle.
This opportunity is open to both:
- CL10 (Senior Analyst) – typically 2-5 years' experience
- CL9 (Consultant) – typically 5-10+ years' experience
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using Java.
- Automate functional testing of SaaS applications.
- Execute and support manual and automated testing activities.
- Create and maintain test cases, test plans, and test execution reports.
- Work closely with users and stakeholders to understand requirements and expected outcomes.
- Identify, record, track, and verify software defects.
- Manage defects through the full defect management lifecycle.
- Collaborate with development and delivery teams to ensure software quality and release readiness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes and automation frameworks.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience automating functional testing of SaaS applications.
- Strong experience writing automation scripts in Java.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of:
- Selenium
- Cucumber
- Karate
- Rest-Assured
- WireMock
- Experience performing both manual and automated testing.
- Proven experience testing software within a structured development environment.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and best practices.
- Experience using defect management tools such as:
- Jira
- Bugzilla
- HP ALM
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Additional Responsibilities (Consultant / SFIA Level 5)
- Lead testing strategy and automation approaches across workstreams.
- Mentor and support junior testers.
- Define test objectives and assess delivery risks.
- Drive improvements to automation frameworks and testing processes.
- Improve test coverage, reliability, and release confidence.
- Collaborate with client and project stakeholders to ensure quality outcomes.
Security Clearance Eligibility
Candidates must:
- Be a UK National or hold Settled Status.
- Have 5 years' continuous UK address history.
- Not have spent 30 consecutive days or more outside the UK during the last 5 years.
