Workday Test Automation Lead/Architect

We are seeking an experienced Workday Test Automation Lead/Architect with strong expertise in automating Workday HCM and Finance applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining automation strategies, developing and maintaining scalable automation frameworks, leading migration of automation assets into client-owned environments, and ensuring high-quality release validation across large-scale Workday programs. This role requires deep knowledge of Workday business processes, integrations, testing methodologies, and automation governance.

Roles & Responsibilities

Automation Strategy & Framework Development

  • Define and implement the overall test automation strategy for Workday HCM and Finance programs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable, scalable, and robust automation frameworks.
  • Establish automation standards, best practices, governance processes, and quality metrics.
  • Drive automation adoption to improve test efficiency, coverage, and release confidence.

Test Automation Execution

  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts for:
    • Workday Business Processes
    • Functional Regression Testing
    • Integration Testing
    • End-to-End Testing
    • Release Validation Testing
  • Ensure automation coverage across critical Workday business functions and integrations.
  • Review, optimize, and maintain automation scripts to ensure long-term sustainability.

Migration & Environment Transition Management

  • Lead migration of automation assets from vendor-managed environments to client-owned environments.
  • Ensure automation suite stabilization, environment readiness, and successful transition activities.
  • Coordinate deployment, execution, and maintenance of automation solutions during migration phases.
  • Manage automation repository setup, access controls, and execution schedules.

Workday Functional & Integration Testing

  • Validate Workday HCM and Finance business processes, security roles, and configuration changes.
  • Verify upstream and downstream integrations with third-party applications and enterprise systems.
  • Perform data reconciliation and validation across multiple Workday environments.
  • Support end-to-end business process testing covering employee lifecycle, payroll, finance, reporting, and integrations.

Release & Regression Management

  • Drive regression planning and regression suite optimization for Workday releases.
  • Conduct impact analysis for Workday updates and application changes.
  • Execute release validation cycles and ensure timely defect identification.
  • Provide recommendations for automation enhancements and risk mitigation.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor offshore and onshore automation teams.
  • Conduct automation code reviews and quality audits.
  • Track defects, risks, dependencies, and testing progress.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Functional Consultants, Implementation Partners, Development Teams, and Business Stakeholders.
  • Present automation metrics, execution results, and testing status to leadership teams.

CI/CD & Reporting

  • Integrate automation suites with CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.
  • Configure automated execution schedules and reporting dashboards.
  • Monitor test execution health, maintain automation KPIs, and provide actionable insights.
  • Generate test execution reports, defect summaries, and release readiness assessments.

Required Skills

Workday Expertise

  • Strong experience in Workday Test Automation across: Workday HCM, Workday Finance, Core HR, Compensation, Talent Management, Recruiting, Absence Management, Financial Management.

Security and Business Process Configuration

  • Expertise in designing and implementing reusable automation frameworks.
  • Strong experience automating: Regression Testing, Integration Testing, End-to-End Testing, User Acceptance Testing Support, Release Validation Testing.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
    • Workday Turnkey Automation
    • Selenium
    • Playwright
    • Tricentis Tosca
    • UFT (Unified Functional Testing)

Other Enterprise Test Automation Tools

  • Experience testing Workday integrations including: Workday Studio, EIB, Web Service, Third-Party Integrations.
  • Strong experience in data reconciliation and validation.
  • Experience validating upstream/downstream system integrations and data flows.

CI/CD Integration

  • Jenkins

Test Management Tools

  • JIRA

Defect Management and Reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday Certification(s) preferred.
  • Testing Certifications such as ISTQB, Tosca Certification, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience working in large-scale Workday implementation, transformation, or support programs.
  • Experience in Agile, DevOps, and Continuous Testing environments.
