Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Automotive Mechanic role based in Wigan. The Automotive Mechanic will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on cars and vans within the rental fleet, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and performance standards. Daily tasks include diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, completing scheduled servicing, replacing parts, and preparing vehicles for hire or return. The role also involves maintaining accurate service records, following company and regulatory procedures, and collaborating with the rental team to minimize vehicle downtime. The mechanic will help uphold Westwood Motor Group’s reputation for reliable vehicles and superior customer service.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in vehicle diagnostics, routine servicing, and mechanical repair for cars and light commercial vehicles.
- Experience with brake, suspension, engine, and transmission systems, including fault-finding and component replacement.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, workshop equipment, and relevant software safely and effectively.
- Good understanding of vehicle safety standards, MOT requirements, and general automotive regulations.
- Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, and maintain clear service and repair documentation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a workshop and rental operations team.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving, time management, and working to schedules in a fast-paced environment.
- Full UK driving licence; experience in a rental, fleet, or dealership environment is an advantage.
