Work Location: In person
Experience: Automotive, HV Vehicle Mechanical – 3 years preferred
All positions need competency in Heavy or Bus mechanical engineering. It’s not essential to have teaching experience.

We are one of the industry leaders in Automotive Apprentice Training, and we are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Heavy Vehicle / Bus & Coach Technical Tutors to join our Training Academy.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Heavy Vehicle, Bus & Coach Technician who is ready to take the next step in their career and use their industry knowledge to develop the next generation of skilled technicians.
You do not necessarily need previous teaching experience. If you are an experienced HV/B&C Technician with strong technical knowledge and a genuine passion for supporting and developing others, we would love to hear from you. Full support and professional development will be provided to help you transition successfully into a training role.
Equally, if you are an experienced trainer, assessor or tutor already working within the automotive or commercial vehicle sector, this is an opportunity to join an established organisation with a strong reputation for apprentice development.
The Role
As an Automotive Technical Tutor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality practical and theoretical training to our Heavy Vehicle / Bus & Coach apprentices.
You will be responsible for creating an engaging learning environment where apprentices can develop the technical skills, knowledge and behaviours required to succeed in the commercial vehicle industry.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality practical and theory training to groups of HV/B&C apprentices.
- Supporting apprentices to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to successfully complete their programme.
- Providing engaging, interactive and industry-relevant training sessions.
- Carrying out fair, accurate and consistent assessments against prescribed criteria.
- Maintaining accurate programme documentation and learner records.
- Ensuring learner outcomes are aligned with the relevant awarding body and apprenticeship standard.
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of training materials.
- Developing clear schemes of work, lesson plans, learning objectives and outcomes.
- Creating an inclusive learning environment where every apprentice has the opportunity to succeed.
- Sharing your industry experience and knowledge to help prepare apprentices for successful careers within the commercial vehicle sector.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, employers and other stakeholders to support learner progress and achievement.

What We're Looking For
Essential
- A strong technical background as a Heavy Vehicle / Bus & Coach Technician within the automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
- Minimum Level 3 NVQ, ATA or another recognised equivalent qualification.
- Strong practical and technical knowledge of commercial vehicles.
- A genuine interest in developing and supporting the next generation of technicians.
- The ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
Heavy Vehicle
- Heavy Vehicle Technician / HGV Technician / Commercial Vehicle Technician
- Experience with vehicle servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair
- Experience working on diesel engines, braking systems, air systems, suspension, steering and driveline systems
- Electrical and electronic fault diagnosis
- Diagnostic equipment and fault-finding experience
- Experience working within large fleet, haulage, dealership or commercial vehicle environments
- Manufacturer experience with brands such as Volvo, Scania, DAF, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Iveco or similar would be useful
- Level 3 automotive or equivalent technical qualification would be desirable
- MOT, IRTEC, diagnostic or manufacturer-specific qualifications would be beneficial
Bus & Coach
- Bus Technician / PSV Technician / Coach Technician / Fleet Technician
- Experience with servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair of buses or coaches
- Diesel engine, braking, air system, suspension, steering and driveline experience
- Electrical and electronic diagnostics
- Experience working with fleet operators, bus operators or manufacturers
- Hybrid, electric vehicle or alternative-fuel experience would be particularly valuable
- Experience with manufacturers such as Alexander Dennis, Wrightbus, Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz or similar
- Level 3 automotive or equivalent qualification desirable
- IRTEC, PSV inspection, diagnostic or manufacturer qualifications beneficial

Candidates from either Heavy Vehicle or Bus and Coach background can be shared for both vacancies, as there is significant crossover in the technical skills, systems and diagnostic knowledge required.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience of high-voltage/electrified commercial vehicles.
- Good knowledge of vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
- Knowledge of ADAS and modern vehicle technologies.
- Previous experience delivering training to apprentices, technicians or skilled professionals.
- Level 3 Education and Training qualification or equivalent.
- Experience developing the knowledge, skills and competence of others to Level 3 and beyond.
- Experience developing training plans, schemes of work and lesson plans.
- An understanding of the current Ofsted framework and expectations for Further Education practice.
Don't have a teaching qualification but have excellent industry experience? Don't let that put you off. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced HV/B&C Technicians who are looking to move into a training and development role.

- £40,000 – £45,000 salary, negotiable depending on skills, knowledge and experience.
