As part of our continued investment in high-quality teaching, learning, and digital services, the University of Surrey is seeking an AV Solutions Specialist to join our IT Services team. This will be for a fixed-term period of 2 years.
This specialist role is responsible for the design, documentation, and lifecycle planning of audiovisual solutions across teaching and meeting spaces, from totem installations and small meeting rooms to large lecture theatres and specialist learning environments. Working alongside the AV Technical Manager, you will help ensure AV systems are supportable, scalable, standardized, and aligned with institutional requirements, improving the reliability, usability, and consistency of technology-enabled teaching, learning, and collaboration spaces.

Role & Responsibilities
The AV Solutions Specialist works collaboratively with the AV Technical Manager, AV support colleagues, IT Services teams, Estates and project colleagues, University stakeholders, and external suppliers to deliver practical, customer-focused AV solutions.
The post holder will lead and contribute to AV design and documentation activity, translating stakeholder requirements into robust solutions within agreed standards and constraints. The role will also support procurement, supplier engagement, installation planning, commissioning, acceptance testing, service transition, and lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities Include
- Design and document AV solutions for teaching, learning, and meeting spaces, including totem setups, small teaching rooms, medium and large teaching rooms, lecture theatres, and specialist environments.
- Work with the AV Technical Manager to develop, apply, and maintain AV standards, reference designs, and supported technology patterns that promote consistency, scalability, and serviceability.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including room specifications, schematics, signal-flow information, bills of materials, network and power requirements, control and interface requirements, support notes, and handover packs.
- Gather and analyze requirements from academic, professional service, and project stakeholders, translating teaching, collaboration, and operational needs into practical AV designs within agreed standards and constraints.
- Support procurement, supplier engagement, installation planning, commissioning, and acceptance testing, ensuring installations meet quality, health and safety, information security, and accessibility expectations.
- Maintain lifecycle and asset information for AV systems, identifying obsolescence, risks, refresh priorities, and opportunities to rationalize or standardize components across the estate.
- Provide specialist technical advice to AV support colleagues and project teams, supporting problem resolution, service transition, training and knowledge transfer for new or changed spaces, and contributing to continuous improvement of AV designs, standards, and processes.

About You
We are looking for an experienced AV professional with a strong understanding of audiovisual systems design, documentation, and technology standards. You should be confident translating the needs of academic and professional service users into practical, reliable, and accessible AV solutions.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to the development of consistent AV standards across the University. Experience of teaching, meeting, and specialist learning environments would be particularly valuable.
