The Role
We are looking for an Academy Sports Scientist to work with us at AWFC on a casual basis.
In this exciting casual role, you'll deliver an effective interpretation of data collected via Global Positioning System (GPS) in a way that Coaches can interpret and understand. You'll play a crucial role in producing players who are durable, resilient from injury, and possess a level of physicality that enables them to express the technical and tactical skills required to transition to the Women's First Team.
You will be entrusted to develop ideas that can complement the AWFC long term athletic development model to progress the athleticism of players in our Academy, delivering information and guidance in relation to the maturational status of players through their growth.

Your day-to-day
- Leverage data to drive positive impact - you'll bridge the physical gap to our Women's First Team via data collection and interpretation, informing and adapting sessions, whilst working in line with our Women's Academy game model, and you will lead and oversee the GPS management on a day-to-day basis, including daily live data feedback and plotting future targets
- Oversee player fitness profiling and growth - you will support and develop our Academy fitness profiling and ensure that it is age-specific, comprehensive and in line with FA requirements, and you'll develop an understanding of where players maturational status is, and how we can support them through all stages of their growth
- Champion individual development - you'll implement an individual development approach, with regular touch points to review the previous block and constantly development our athletes as well as developing the team as a whole
- Support the development of our Academy programme - you will attend reviews and contribute to reports with key stakeholders throughout the season, to have input into the development of our Women's Academy programme
- Assist in the education of colleagues - you'll help Academy colleagues to understand the requirements of robustness and resilience amongst athletes, through the physical guidance of sessions
- Create and implement sports science strategies - you will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to optimise the squads' abilities to perform throughout the season, and you'll demonstrate the desire to develop the provision within the programme through education and learning strategies
- Feed into talent ID processes - you'll support the development of talent ID profiles for age and position appropriate information to inform our decision-making process using data collection

What we are looking for
- History of working with elite athletes - you're proud of your previous success of working with elite footballers and/or athletes domestically and internationally, and you have a natural enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring elite young and senior players
- Credible expertise - you hold a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Sports Science or Strength and Conditioning, as well as an FA Safeguarding Children Certificate
- Experience working as a key part of a multidisciplinary team - you have a track record of operating within a multidisciplinary performance team and providing strength and conditioning, sports science, or physiotherapy services to elite players, to improve performance, prevent injuries and ensure timely recoveries
- Background in Women's football - you have knowledge of the FA Girls' Talent Pathway and WSL Academy structure
- Data competency - you are confident in using and interpreting GPS data, ideally in a football or sport context
- Best-in-class communication skills - you're an effective communicator with the ability to build meaningful, impactful strategic relationships with colleagues and players
- Organised and adaptable approach - you can demonstrate excellent session planning and organisational skills
- Flexible and adaptable mindset - you possess a willingness to work weekends and can be flexible to the needs of an ever-changing schedule, and you are able to travel independently
- Position of Trust - As someone in a position of trust role involving regular, direct contact with children or vulnerable adults you will be expected to uphold high standards of conduct to prevent abuse, including sexual, physical, or emotional harm. This role requires you to keep updated with both Club and FA Safeguarding training and education
