Technology Lead

We are seeking a hands-on Technology Lead to lead the modernisation of a large-scale Java enterprise application into a secure, scalable and cloud-native platform on AWS. The role combines solution architecture, software engineering, database expertise, DevOps and customer-facing technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Java application modernisation, including microservices, API-first, serverless and event-driven architecture.
  • Define target architecture, modernisation roadmap, technical standards and engineering best practices.
  • Design and implement AWS solutions using ECS, Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, S3 and CloudWatch.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across Java 11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, REST APIs, Python and TypeScript.
  • Lead database architecture and hands-on engineering across Amazon DynamoDB and Aurora PostgreSQL, including data modelling, performance tuning, migration, HA/DR and operational support.
  • Establish and govern CI/CD, DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code using Jenkins/GitHub Actions, Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
  • Drive observability, security, resilience, performance and production-readiness standards.
  • Lead architecture workshops, technical governance and design reviews with customer stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineering teams and coordinate architects, developers, DevOps and database specialists across distributed workstreams.
  • Support complex technical issues, proof-of-concepts, performance optimisation and production transition.

Essential Experience

  • 12+ years in enterprise technology, architecture or software engineering leadership.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud architecture and application modernisation.
  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices and distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on DynamoDB and Aurora PostgreSQL/PostgreSQL experience, including DBA, SQL tuning and data migration.
  • Experience with Docker, CI/CD, Jenkins/GitHub Actions and Terraform/CloudFormation.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams and engaging with senior customer stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, architecture governance, problem-solving and mentoring skills.

  • AWS professional-level certification(s).
  • Experience delivering large-scale enterprise cloud transformation programmes.
  • Agile delivery and geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Experience in high-volume sectors such as logistics, retail, financial services or manufacturing.
