AWS Solutions Architect (Contract)
Location: Cambridge (2 days per week onsite)
Contract: 3 months
Start: ASAP

We are looking for an experienced AWS Solutions Architect to join a high-profile project on an initial 3-month contract. This is a hands-on architecture role where you will be responsible for designing and delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions within AWS, working closely with engineering teams to define best practices and technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver scalable, secure, and highly available AWS cloud solutions.
  • Define architecture for cloud-native, microservices-based applications.
  • Lead architectural design sessions and provide technical leadership across development teams.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures using AWS services and messaging technologies.
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, scalability, resilience, and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years' experience in software engineering, including at least 3 years in a Solutions Architect or Cloud Architect role.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing solutions on AWS across compute, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Proven experience with cloud-native and microservices architectures.
  • Strong understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD), API design, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka, Amazon SQS/SNS, EventBridge, or Kinesis.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and service mesh technologies (Istio, AWS App Mesh, or Linkerd).
  • Experience with AWS Lambda and serverless architectures.
  • Knowledge of data streaming, data lakes, or modern data platforms.
  • Exposure to hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
