Business-as-Usual (BAU) Engineer with Automation and AI Mindset
We are looking for a Business-as-Usual (BAU) Engineer with a strong automation and AI mindset to join our AWS BAU team. This role is critical to ensuring stable day-to-day operations while leading the adoption of AI-driven automation and operational intelligence across our cloud estate.
The successful candidate will combine hands-on BAU operational expertise with the ability to identify, design, and deliver automation opportunities using AI, scripting, and cloud-native tooling, helping the team move from reactive operations to proactive, self-healing services.
Key Responsibilities
BAU & Operational Excellence
- Own and execute day-to-day BAU operations, including system monitoring, incident resolution, patching, and routine maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Linux servers, AWS infrastructure, applications, and networking layers.
- Ensure adherence to SLAs, ITSM processes (Incident, Change, Problem), and operational controls.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term corrective and preventive actions.
- Support scheduled maintenance, upgrades, certificate renewals, and capacity planning.
- Maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles.

AI & Automation Leadership
- Lead the automation journey within BAU, identifying repetitive, error-prone, or manual processes suitable for automation.
- Design and implement automation solutions using scripting, Ansible, AWS services, and AI-assisted tooling.
- Leverage AI/ML and GenAI capabilities (e.g., AWS Bedrock, Lambda-based automation, AI-driven alert enrichment) to:
- Improve incident triage and diagnostics
- Reduce MTTR
- Enhance monitoring and alert intelligence
- Partner with SRE, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams to embed automation and AI into operational workflows.
- Champion a “shift-left” and “automate-first” mindset across BAU activities.
- Measure and report on automation outcomes (time saved, incidents reduced, operational efficiency).
Monitoring, Security & Compliance
- Monitor the estate using Datadog and AWS CloudWatch, proactively responding to alerts and trends.
- Manage SSL certificate lifecycle and renewals.
- Execute patch management using tools such as RedHat Satellite and Ansible.
- Support security operations, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
Skills & Qualifications (Required)
- Proven experience in BAU / IT Operations / Cloud Operations roles.
- Strong Linux (RHEL) system administration experience.
- Solid hands-on knowledge of AWS services including:
- EC2, VPC, ELB, RDS, ECS, EFS, EMR, S3, IAM, Lambda, CloudTrail, Config, EBS
- Experience with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management).
- Strong automation skills using Ansible, scripting (Bash / Python / PowerShell).
- Experience working with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog preferred).
- Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and automation.
- Must hold (or be eligible for) SC Clearance.
- Willingness to participate in on-call support (rotational).
- Hands-on experience with AI / GenAI initiatives in operations, such as:
- AI-assisted incident analysis
- Automated remediation
- Intelligent alerting or chatbot-based ops support
- Exposure to AWS Bedrock, Lambda-based automation, or event-driven architectures.

Nice-to-Have / Desirable
- Experience with SRE / DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of Docker / container platforms.
- Working knowledge of Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins.
- Relevant certifications (AWS, Terraform, RHEL).
