Senior AWS Cloud Engineer | Abingdon | £75,000pa plus bonus & benefits | 1 day onsite per week

MARS has partnered a global consultancy to hire a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join a talented IT function. This strategic delivery partners work, spans both private and public enterprises on a global basis, delivering real impactful change, improvements, and transformation for their clients. With an amazing company culture and values, this business really puts its staff at the forefront of what they do.

My client is building a multi-cloud platform department, and their estate today is Microsoft Azure; but they’re establishing a presence in Amazon Web Services (AWS) next, with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to follow. Therefore, they are looking for an engineer whose deepest expertise is in AWS — the AWS expert who will lead the design and build of the AWS landing zone and set the standards we carry into it. Because that AWS environment does not exist yet, your day-to-day work will initially be in Azure, and you will need to be fully willing to design, build, and support in Azure while the AWS platform is established. This is not a people management role. Rather, the Senior Cloud Engineer is the go-to expert: the person who solutionizes complex requirements, leads on architecture decisions, represents the cloud function in project and client conversations, and sets the technical benchmark for the rest of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Design and Build of AWS Landing Zone: Set the standards for the AWS environment, including multi-account structure, identity, networking, and guardrails.
  • Cross-Platform Expertise: Design, build, and support workloads in both Azure and AWS.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code: Use Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation or CDK for provisioning and managing AWS resources, and Bicep for Azure.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Build and maintain pipelines in Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
  • Scripting and Automation: Use Python, PowerShell, and the AWS and Azure CLIs for automation and operational tasks.
  • Integration Services: Work with AWS integration services (EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, Lambda, API Gateway) and Azure Integration Services (Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, API Management).
  • AWS Platform Foundations: Experience with multi-account design using AWS Organizations and Control Tower, IAM and IAM Identity Center, VPC networking, and security services such as GuardDuty, Security Hub, and CloudTrail.
  • API Development: Solid experience with SOAP and REST APIs, including design, development, and secure management.
  • Version Control: Experience with GitHub, including branching strategies and code review practices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
