Join a critical UK Government programme at a major UK Government Department, via a leading Global Technology Consulting Company, as a Data Engineer. You'll build and optimise cloud-native data pipelines on AWS, working hands-on within a high-profile public sector environment. Multiple positions available at both Junior and Senior level, with an ASAP start.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and operating batch and real-time data pipelines using Apache Kafka and cloud-native AWS services
- Designing, optimising and querying relational data stores on AWS Aurora (PostgreSQL)
- Deploying and running containerised data workloads with Docker and Kubernetes
- Building API-driven ingestion from RESTful sources, handling authentication, pagination, retries and error handling
- Implementing logical and physical data models and contributing to warehouse structures such as star and snowflake schemas
- Owning data quality, validation, reconciliation and monitoring across the platform
- Collaborating with analysts, application and platform teams in an Agile, product-led delivery environment

What We're Looking For (Senior)
- Expert SQL for transformation, performance tuning and analytics
- Strong hands-on Kafka experience designing and operating streaming systems
- Deep AWS Aurora (PostgreSQL) and relational database design experience
- Proven dimensional and transactional data modelling, plus enterprise data warehouse delivery
- Production Docker and Kubernetes experience for data workloads
- Strong REST API integration experience, including resilience patterns such as timeouts, retries and idempotency
- Technical leadership and mentoring experience

What We're Looking For (Junior)
- 3+ years in a data engineering, analytics or software engineering role
- Solid SQL fundamentals including joins, aggregations and subqueries
- Understanding of ETL / ELT concepts and pipeline design
- Exposure to Apache Kafka or a similar streaming platform
- Working knowledge of AWS, especially managed databases
- Awareness of Docker and Kubernetes concepts
- Basic REST API and JSON experience for data ingestion
