About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AWS Data Engineer to join Microlise on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is pivotal in developing and enhancing our cloud data platform, which underpins our next-generation customer-facing analytics and AI products. As a hands-on engineering professional, you will be responsible for transforming operational, telematics, customer, and third-party data into reliable, reusable data products that empower dashboards, APIs, self-service analytics, machine learning, and future generative AI services. Your expertise will help establish a robust, scalable, and secure data foundation, utilizing modern AWS managed services, lakehouse architecture, Data Mesh principles, and governance-by-design patterns. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence how data is trusted, shared, and leveraged across the organization, directly impacting customer satisfaction and business growth. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including architecture, platform engineering, and analytics, to deliver scalable, production-ready data solutions that support Microlise’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of technical expertise and practical experience in data engineering. Essential qualifications include hands-on experience designing and implementing data solutions on AWS cloud platforms, with proficiency in SQL, Python, and dbt. A solid understanding of lakehouse architecture, medallion patterns, data modeling, data quality management, and data governance is required. Familiarity with data contracts, metadata, lineage, and Data Mesh concepts will be highly advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate ownership, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively with engineering, product, architecture, and business stakeholders. Experience in developing analytics, BI, API, or AI-ready data products is desirable, as well as a practical understanding of how data can create business value and support scalable, secure data environments.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Building and maintaining scalable AWS lakehouse pipelines using services such as S3, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, DMS, and Step Functions.
- Transforming operational data into governed, reusable data products suitable for dashboards, APIs, and customer-facing analytics.
- Ensuring data quality, lineage, metadata management, and access controls, embedding governance-by-design principles into every aspect of your work.
- Collaborating with architecture, platform engineering, and analytics teams to design scalable delivery patterns that can be extended across the organization.
- Supporting the development of resilient data transformations, orchestration patterns, and quality checks that underpin reliable customer-facing analytics.
- Monitoring performance, optimizing costs, and ensuring operational reliability.
- Supporting observability and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the data platform’s capabilities.
