AWS DevOps Engineer – Central Government
Contract length: 9 months
Day rate: £550 per day
IR35 status: Inside IR35
Location: Fully remote within the UK
Start date: ASAP
Security clearance: Active SC clearance required

The role
We are seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to support a high-profile Central Government project. You will join a multidisciplinary delivery team responsible for building, automating and maintaining secure, scalable AWS infrastructure.
This is a nine-month contract with an immediate start available. Due to the nature of the project, applicants must already hold active SC clearance.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deploy and maintain secure AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Build and manage infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate deployment, configuration and operational processes.
- Manage containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes or Amazon EKS.
- Implement monitoring, logging and alerting solutions.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and performance issues.
- Apply security, resilience and compliance best practices.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, security specialists and government stakeholders.
- Produce clear technical and operational documentation.

Essential experience
- Strong commercial experience in an AWS DevOps or Cloud Engineering role.
- Hands-on experience with core AWS services, such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, S3, RDS and CloudWatch.
- Strong infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or AWS CodePipeline.
- Good knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong Linux and scripting skills, ideally using Bash or Python.
- Experience implementing cloud security controls and managing IAM.
- Experience supporting highly available, production-grade systems.
- Previous experience delivering projects within Central Government or another regulated environment is desirable.

Mandatory requirements
- You must currently hold active UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
- You must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
- You must be available to start at short notice.
- You must be able to work remotely from within the UK.
