About The Role

We are seeking an experienced hands-on AWS DevOps Engineer to join the LCST Programme team at Leidos. In this role, you will be an integral part of a high-performing Agile team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and scalable cloud infrastructure. Your expertise will drive automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery processes utilizing AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools. The role requires a proactive individual with a strong background in cloud-native architecture, scripting, and automation, capable of working across multiple disciplines including systems engineering, software development, and security.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical skills, certifications, and hands-on experience, including but not limited to proficiency in cloud infrastructure management, scripting, automation tools, and Agile methodologies. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional or equivalent are highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of security best practices, network management, and disaster recovery strategies. Experience working within an Agile environment, utilizing tools like Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, will be advantageous. A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage source code repositories using GIT, including pull requests, branching strategies, and collaborative workflows to ensure code integrity and version control.
  • Design, deploy, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, utilizing services such as EC2, ECR, ECS, EKS, VPC, RDS, Load Balancers, Lambda, IAM, Route 53, and others to meet operational requirements.
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud environments.
  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines leveraging Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools to automate building, testing, and deployment processes across various environments.
  • Create and maintain scripts and automation tools using Bash, Python, PowerShell, and other scripting languages to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual interventions.
  • Utilize containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestrate container deployment using Kubernetes or ECS, ensuring best practices in configuration management.
  • Manage secrets and sensitive information securely using tools like Vault and IAM policies, ensuring compliance with security standards.
  • Apply AWS security best practices, including encryption, patch management, monitoring, and access controls, to safeguard infrastructure and data.
  • Develop and oversee backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity and data integrity.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring and logging solutions with CloudWatch, Prometheus, or other tools to maintain system reliability and facilitate incident response.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, translating business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Design cloud-native solutions that are resilient, scalable, and cost-effective, aligning with organizational performance and availability targets.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Configure and optimize routing, traffic management, and load balancing using NGINX, AWS-native tools, or other relevant technologies.
  • Follow structured release and change management processes, including deployment governance, rollback procedures, and version control.
  • Support platform-wide application deployment considerations, including understanding Java environments and integration points.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance delivery pipelines and infrastructure management.
  • Manage event-driven architectures by designing and maintaining SNS topics, integrating notifications with Lambda functions or external systems.
  • Utilize Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for project management, documentation, and CI/CD pipeline support.
  • Coordinate with security teams to manage identity and access management using Active Directory, ADFS, and cloud authentication services.
