About The Role
We are collaborating with Leidos to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. The position of AWS DevOps Engineer is a hands-on, technical role within the LCST Programme team. As an integral part of a high-performing Agile team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud infrastructure leveraging AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Your work will support the development and deployment of cloud-native solutions, automating processes to ensure continuous integration and delivery across multiple environments. This role involves active participation in Agile ceremonies, risk mitigation activities, and collaborative solution design, requiring cross-functional flexibility across systems engineering, software development, testing, and security domains.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, hands-on experience, and relevant certifications. Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services, infrastructure automation, scripting, and CI/CD pipelines is essential. Candidates should have experience working in Agile environments and demonstrate a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or equivalent are highly desirable. A background in systems administration, cloud architecture, and security best practices will be advantageous. The candidate must be a UK citizen, able to obtain or hold UK Security Clearance (SC), and be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

Responsibilities
- Manage source code repositories using GIT, including pull requests, branching strategies (Trunk-based, GitFlow), and collaborative workflows.
- Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure, utilizing services such as EC2, ECR, ECS, EKS, VPC, RDS, Load Balancers, Lambda, IAM, Route 53, and others.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud environments.
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools, automating the build, test, and deployment processes.
- Create and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages to streamline operations and eliminate manual tasks.
- Implement containerization strategies utilizing Docker, along with orchestration practices, and manage configuration using tools like Ansible or Puppet.
- Ensure security best practices by managing secrets with Vault, IAM policies, and implementing encryption, patching, and access controls.
- Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.
- Implement monitoring and logging solutions such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, or ELK stack to ensure system reliability, observability, and proactive incident response.
- Participate actively in Agile development processes, translating business requirements into technical solutions, and contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
- Design scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions that meet performance and availability objectives.
- Identify root causes of issues and implement effective mitigation strategies through troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Configure routing, traffic management, and load balancing using NGINX and AWS-native tools to optimize traffic flow and system performance.
- Manage structured release and change management processes, including deployment governance, rollback strategies, and version control.
- Support platform-wide consistency and integrations, including understanding Java application environments and deployment considerations.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve delivery pipelines, infrastructure, and development practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Design and manage SNS topics for event-driven architectures, integrating notifications with Lambda functions or external systems for scalable workflows.
- Utilize Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket to support Agile delivery, documentation, collaboration, and CI/CD pipeline management.
- Work with Active Directory and ADFS for identity and access management, including group policies, SSO, and cloud authentication integrations.
